Wars of the Roses on TV?

I have mixed feelings about this. One, I'm glad someone is finally giving the Wars of the Roses its own series! It's far overdue. However, I don't know how I feel about it being based on Philippa Gregory's books. Sure, they are fun to read, but look how the film adaption of The Other Boleyn Girl turned out...

Here's the link to an article briefly discussing the new series. I will post more as more info becomes available!

  1. I heartily agree, Elizabeth! There are far better books to base a WoR tv series on - The Sunne in Splendour, for one, We Speak No Treason and The King's Grey Mare, for two more. I fear we have years ahead of us correcting the unknowledge this will put in people's heads.

    1. I agree. The Sunne in Splendour is an excellent one! I am very interested to see how they portray Richard III. Most likely as the villain (though I hate to admit it, he would make a great one). I bet they will show Edward IV like they did the young Henry VIII in The Tudors (a womanizing sex machine).

Either way, we shall see...I am sure there will be plenty of corrections in the future, as you said.

If you are on Facebook, we have some great discussions going on there about it!

  2. do you like shakespeare? I'm asking because I saw the movie 'anonymous' that portraits the rumors about who really wrote the shakespeare plays. It was kind of shoking to me,but really interesting.
I now I'm thinking really serious to write a paper about shakespeare and the translations of his plays to portuguese,my language.

You think it could be a god paper for master degree?

    1. I LOVE Shakespeare! I really want to see Anonymous, but it isn't in a theatre near me. The Shakespeare Conspiracy theories are certainly interesting. But I always love a good conspiracy theory :) I wrote about one of the possible "Shakespeares" here (http://www.thetudortattler.com/2011/08/roguish-rake-christopher-marlowe.html). I think it would certainly make an interesting thesis!

  3. Why cannot they write a series of books just for the TV based on some proper research. However the Cousins War series are good and I look forward to watching the series. The Other Boleyn Girl was based on a theory, the Wars of the War books are more accurate. There are better books out there by Sarah Worth for example, but surely it is what makes good drama that is the most important thing as they are not making history but historical drams?
